Photography: The Preservation of a Moment

Over the last year I have become more interested in photography. The last couple weeks my interest has sky-rocketed due to a want for a new hobby, better blog post pictures, and a more professional Instagram.

I have always enjoyed taking pictures, but since I started my blog and took a larger interest in the world of social media I have begun to take photography more seriously.

Before my interest in picture taking grew my usual routine when I would travel or go to an event consisted of taking a lot of pictures, picking my favorite, deleting the rest, and posting the one. Not to mention I would just slap a filter on the picture and more than likely turn the exposure and contrast all the way up.

Over the last couple of months I have realized the value of pictures. They preserve moments, tell stories, and allow our experiences to be shared with others. I truly believe that photography is a life skill that many people should acquire.

Its so interesting to me how a simple interest can bring people together. In my case it was photography. You know those kids that you went to school with and you always thought they would be fun to hang out with, but you never did?

That person for me was Zach Thompson. I went to school with Zach for years, but we were never really friends. He switched to home schooling after his sophomore year of high school so I rarely saw him after that. A couple months ago I followed Zach on Instagram and his pictures inspired me. He says his style consists of “shooting landscapes and people in an organic environment and manner.” I reached out to Zach and told him of my growing interest in photography. He gave me advice and invited me to shoot with him and his friend Cameron Miller.

At the time I had also been following Cameron on Instagram for a while. He is a great photographer and an even better storyteller. Cameron told me that “there are so many concepts in a single captured moment, so I strive to approach things that way when I’m out shooting.” He creates beautiful pictures of nature and people as well as incredible pieces of literature to accompany them.

Zach and Cameron have now become great friends of mine and have taught me so much about photography. Every time I see their work it inspires me to think creatively and publish better content. They have taught me about the basics of picture taking, camera use, and photo editing.

I’m really looking forward to growing as a photographer and learning daily through my successes and failures. If you don’t already, I’d love for you to follow me on Instagram and watch me learn and grow as a photographer!

If you are looking for inspiration or just enjoy good pictures you should definitely check out Zach and Cameron as well as Jesse Foy, Kuleigh Baker, 1924us, and Bryce Miller. They are just a few of the many people who I look to for inspiration
