Embracing Life’s Waiting Periods

Perseverance is the steadfastness in doing something despite difficulty or delay in achieving success.

We live in a society that is driven by immediate gratification. We are so used to getting what we want immediately. Not many people know how to wait anymore.

We must remember that everything takes time and that we are all works in progress.

God tells us to be patient and wait, but we do not listen. We have desires and we want them this instant.

Isaiah 40:31 tells us “but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.”

God wants us to wait and trust him for four main reasons.

We Are Not Ready

Sometimes God makes us wait because he knowns we are not ready for whatever it is that we want. He knows what is best for us and what we want in the current moment might not be what is best for us. Be patient and one day God will decide if you are ready.

We Get Closer to Him

When we trust in God and persevere it draws us closer to him. We learn to find comfort in him and his word.

We Discover Who We Are

You learn so much about yourself during a waiting period in life. We may see ourselves one way, but God sees us another way. When we learn to be patient and take the time to reflect on where we are we learn so much about who we are. We can see where we have been and where we are headed.

We Can See The Open Doors

The last reason God wants us to learn to wait is so that we can see the open doors he has laid out for us. When we are going too fast we miss out on all the new opportunities that God has created for us. Not only does God open doors, but he also closes them. He wants us to be aware of the paths that we should not follow.

If what you want most does not align with what God wants for you then you will not feel fulfilled. When you find yourself embarking on something new or you come to a decision that needs to be made find comfort in God and ask him if this is what he wants for you. One thing that many of us do not realize is that God loves talking to us. If you are not sure what to do just ask him. He will answer.

If we find ourselves caught in a waiting period and we lean into ourselves or others we will fall, but if we lean into God we will stand tall. Strong growth and faith lie in the waiting periods in life.

Remember that God wants us to succeed, but we might not be ready yet. Trust and have faith. We are all works in progress. Learn to persevere.
